Battle of the Bands!

The past fall semester brought a season full of vibrant community events, heartfelt generosity, and important progress toward improving our student center. As we look back on the lively gatherings and the generous support from our donors, we also look forward with excitement to the spring semester, which promises even more opportunities for connection and growth. This post shares highlights from the fall, updates on our ongoing building projects, and a preview of what’s ahead.

Fall Semester Highlights: Building Community Together

This fall, our calendar was packed with events that brought people together in meaningful ways. Each gathering reflected the spirit of community and connection that defines our group.

Some highlights were:

  • Back to School BBQ: We kicked off the semester with a lively BBQ that welcomed students back to campus. The event was filled with laughter, great food, and new friendships.

  • Luau Night: A tropical-themed evening with tacos brought a fun and festive atmosphere, complete with music and decorations that welcomed new students to St. Paul's.

  • Camping Trip: Our outdoor adventure offered a chance to unplug and enjoy nature, strengthening bonds through shared experiences around the campfire.

  • Oktoberfest Celebration: This traditional event drew a large crowd, celebrating with authentic food, music, and community spirit. This event wouldn't be possible without the generosity of so many here at St. Paul's Student Center.

  • Women’s Silent Retreat at Marymount: A peaceful retreat provided a space for reflection and renewal, with strong attendance showing the desire for quiet and connection.

  • Battle of the Bands!: This new event was a huge hit. Many students and missionaries competed and played some amazing music for everyone to enjoy.

  • Thursday Night Newman Dinners: These weekly dinners have become a beloved tradition, consistently drawing high attendance. We extend deep gratitude to our donors who make these dinners possible, providing nourishing meals that foster fellowship.

Each event was a success because of the enthusiasm and participation of our community and the generous support from donors who help make these moments possible.

Progress on Hearts and Hammer Campaign and Facility Upgrades

This fall also marked the launch of the Hearts and Hammer Campaign, a vital initiative to rebuild and improve St. Paul’s for the future. The campaign focuses on essential repairs and upgrades to ensure our center remains a welcoming and safe space.

Key projects underway include:

  • HVAC System Upgrade: The heating and cooling system required a $146,000 repair and upgrade. Thanks to a generous $70,000 donation from the Diocese and the multiple donations of our supporters we were able to get heat back in the building just in time for winter. We are all incredibly grateful for the generosity of so many of you.

  • Chapel Ceiling Repair: Structural issues in the chapel ceiling need urgent attention to maintain safety and preserve the beauty of this sacred space. We are currently finishing this repair and are excited to get the scaffolding out of the chapel.

  • Complete Repiping of the Center: Plans are in place for a full repiping project to improve water quality and system reliability. With St. Paul's having been built in the 1960s, the pipes are rusted beyond repair.

  • Parking Lot Repairs: After fixing a sinkhole and addressing other developing issues, repaving the parking lot is needed to enhance safety and accessibility.

  • Apartment Upgrades: Out of seven apartment showers, three have been replaced. New washers, dryers, and hot water heater have been installed, and two units now have upgraded heating and air conditioning systems. More improvements are planned to ensure comfortable living spaces.

These projects reflect our commitment to maintaining a strong foundation for our community’s future.

Looking Ahead: Spring Semester Full of Promise

The spring semester is shaping up to be just as engaging and inspiring. We recently participated in SEEK in Denver, which saw an amazing turnout and energized our community for the months ahead.

Upcoming events include:

  • Men’s Silent Retreat in February at Marymount: A focused time for reflection and spiritual growth.

  • Holy Week in April: A series of meaningful observances and gatherings to prepare for Easter.

  • Annual “Building a Legacy” Endowment Fundraiser in May: Last year’s fundraiser exceeded expectations, and we are excited to build on that success this year. This event supports long-term sustainability and growth.

These activities will continue to strengthen our community bonds and support our mission.

Gratitude for Our Supporters and Donors

None of this progress would be possible without the generosity of our supporters and donors. Your contributions provide the foundation for every event, every meal, and every repair project. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to our community’s well-being and future.

As we celebrate the successes of the fall and look forward to the spring, we invite everyone to stay engaged, participate in upcoming events, and continue supporting the Hearts and Hammer Campaign. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant community.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
