How you can help:
Food drives are extremely helpful. Since its opening in October 2012, the pantry has not had to seek food outside of our community, except for the initial start up from the food bank. It has all been donations, in the form of food or cash. Those interested in supporting the Horse Bit can contact us for a list of the most needed items.
Volunteer! You can donate your time to help serve those who use the pantry.
History of The Horse Bit:
Ben Moore of Crosswalks Campus Ministry was handing out food boxes to the students living in the dorms. At one of the campus ministry leaders meetings, the idea was brought up to begin a food pantry.
St. Paul’s Catholic Student Center offered free lunch every day during the week at 12:30. There was an increase of students at this lunch. The students began to ask their friends and classmates about their thoughts on hunger in college. The results were clear: students are hungry.
A lot of students cannot afford meal plans provided by Boise State. Even the freshmen who are required to purchase one were not getting all their meals covered for the semester.
Thus, Ben from Crosswalks and Teresa DeVino from St. Paul’s decided to join together to create The Horse Bit.
